We Barely Saw 'Superman' — and James Gunn’s Already Teasing the Sequel on Threads

It wasn’t official, but it was clear enough.
Following the launch of James Gunn’s DC universe, it’s hard not to keep an eye on every move — especially when Superman is still in theatres. The film hasn’t even finished its theatrical run, yet Gunn is already dropping hints that a sequel is underway. Naturally, he did it in the most James Gunn way possible.
It happened on Threads, when a fan asked what he was currently working on. Gunn replied: "Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!" Another user pressed him: "When are you going to tease the sequel?" Gunn shot back: "I JUST DID!"
So yes, he kind of did.
Though he previously denied reports about writing Superman 2, his latest posts suggest otherwise. And honestly, it makes sense.
The film has earned solid reviews (83% on Rotten Tomatoes) and is holding strong at the domestic box office. With a global total of $509 million so far, it’s not a mega-hit — but it’s a healthy start to Gunn’s rebooted DCU.
Meanwhile, Supergirl is due next summer, Clayface begins filming in September, and a new Wonder Woman project is being fast-tracked. Chances are, Superman 2 is next in line.
What’s amusing is that the 'announcement' didn’t come from a studio press release, but a two-line exchange on social media. Then again, anyone who follows Gunn knows — he rarely plays by the book.
