Stephen King Teases Pennywise’s Menacing Return in ‘It: Welcome to Derry’: “Still Scary as Hell”
HBO’s new horror show is yet to reintroduce the main villain from Stephen King’s “It” novel, but Pennywise’s return might be even more horrifying than you expect, according to King himself.
The spooky season might be over for now, but HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry is determined to keep its viewers on the edge of their seat for a little bit longer.
Partially based on Stephen King’s famous horror novel “It”, the new TV series is currently making many fans’ dream come true, explaining in details Pennywise the Clown’s origins and following the villain’s multiple “returns” to the small town of Derry to torture its citizens yet another time.
It and It Chapter Two’s Bill Skarsgård is set to reprise his role as Pennywise, though the actor hasn’t yet appeared in the show’s first two episodes, now available on HBO Max.
However, it won’t take Skarsgård much longer to reappear as the evil clown, and Stephen King might have just confirmed that we are not ready for it.

Even though the author has been long believed to not be scared of anything anymore, his recent revelations about his own experience with It: Welcome to Derry might sound a bit alarming for those who don’t appreciate jump-scares much.
With many fans now wondering when Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise will finally enter the scene, King teased the approaching date of the villain’s arrival in the show by suggesting he has already seen the actor in action — and that was way more terrifying than he thought.
“When Pennywise finally appears, he’s still scary as hell. I like ‘Welcome to Derry’ a lot. There are plenty of horrors and lots of surreal visuals. There’s a supermarket scare that sticks in my mind, complete with pickle jars”, King revealed in an interview with the New York Post, ahead of It: Welcome to Derry’s episode 3 release this Sunday.

However suspicious Stephen King’s words sound just days before the next episode’s release, Skarsgård likely won’t be in it yet.
The show’s creators, as well as King himself, haven’t said anything specific about the actor’s return as Pennywise, only fuelling the audiences’ interest by constantly teasing the character’s shocking reintroduction.
However, insiders have recently revealed that Bill Skarsgård’s first appearance on It: Welcome to Derry will happen in the first season’s episode 5, with the actor becoming a constant for the rest of the instalment.
It: Welcome to Derry’s episode 5 will air on November 23, while episode 3 is set to arrive on HBO Max on November 9.
