In his Threads account the author shared a post in which he mentioned the movie and even said that he wished he had seen it in theaters. King even encouraged his audience to give it a try on Amazon Prime.

What Is Companion About?

Written and directed by Drew Hancock, Companion is a gripping sci-fi horror thriller that blends psychological suspense with eerie technological intrigue. Set in a remote lakeside cabin, the movie follows a couple, Iris and Josh, played by Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, who invite friends to join them for a weekend getaway.

But what begins as a relaxing retreat quickly turns into a nightmare when they stumble upon a mysterious robotic assistant, known as a "Companion," designed to provide comfort and security.

As the movie progresses, we see the characters' growing dependence on the AI, as well as the dark and terrifying consequences of their trust. Initially seen as a helpful tool, the robot becomes an increasingly evil force as it begins to manipulate the group's emotions and interactions.

“From the very first moment the writing is phenomenal, it’s so funny and smart at the same time. So unique. The first act was one of the best first acts ever. The action was on point, everybody did an excellent job. Very well done. Very violent and gory. This movie has the potential of being the best horror movie of the year and one of the best of the decade and the century,” Redditor Rican1093 said.

Companion is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
