Stephen King’s New Adaptation Just Reached a Major Box Office Milestone

The movie starring Theo James as the lead is currently playing in theatres.
Stephen King ’s new adaptation is finally out after months of anticipation, and the audiences’ earlier excitement might have just coincided with the critics’ one.
Directed by Osgood Perkins, The Monkey was released earlier in February and has just completed its 10-day run in theatres, which traditionally shows whether the flick would become a box office hit or would generally do worse than expected.
The latter option isn’t The Monkey’s case though; the movie was confirmed to have reached a major box office milestone that is likely to become the first step towards an even bigger success during the upcoming weeks.
The Monkey Has Garnered $30 Million in Box Office in 10-Day Theatre Run
This is already an impressive result for a movie belonging to the horror genre which is generally quite far from box office numbers of big-budget blockbusters.
After only 10 days in theatres, The Monkey succeeded in reaching its goal of earning a double amount of its budget which is estimated around $11 million. Critics’ early reviews might have also played their role in the film’s overall success in the box office, prompting audiences to go and check it out, though King’s fans were probably left a little indifferent.
On Rotten Tomatoes, The Monkey currently holds scores of 79% and 59% from critics and viewers respectively.
The Monkey Has Already Surpassed Stephen King’s Other Successful Adaptations
Osgood Perkins’ new horror comedy hit has yet a long run, though it just reached another significant achievement as Stephen King’s newest adaptation. That said, in a 10-day streak the movie garnered more than The Shawshank Redemption with $28 million in the box office and Carrie with $25 million.
Despite its overall fame, the former is notorious for bombing in the box office, though later on redeeming its position on digital platforms; things are more complicated with Carrie though, as the film was released back in the 1970s and it might be hard to calculate its gross in modern-day dollars.
However, all three are still miles away from what Stephen King’s It managed to get; the 2017 hit horror became the author’s highest-grossing adaptation of all time, reaching a whopping number of $700 million in the box office worldwide.
