Stop Hating HBO's 'Harry Potter': This Show Is Exactly What We Deserve, and Here's Why
Give the new adaptation a chance.
On March 26, HBO released the first teaser for the upcoming Harry Potter series. The two-minute clip sparked a heated debate – some fans were thrilled, while others criticized everything from the actors to the "wrong" atmosphere.
However, it's important to note that the series is not a remake of the movies, but rather a new adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books.
Here's Why the New 'Harry Potter' Teaser Is Being Criticized – And Why We Disagree With the Haters

The two main complaints of those who are dissatisfied are that the series allegedly follows the 2001 movie frame-by-frame and lacks a magical atmosphere.
The first point is debatable: the teaser contains scenes that were not in the movies. For example, Aunt Petunia mercilessly cuts Harry's hair, and Harry is bullied by Dudley and his friends at school.
We also see Harry alone on a train watching Ron and Molly Weasley's touching farewell, a scene with which the orphan is still unfamiliar. The teaser clearly establishes that it's the story of a boy who has been alone his whole life.
Regarding the lack of magic, John Williams's theme plays a significant role. However, Hans Zimmer is working on the new project, so we're sure to hear something exciting – teasers don't always reveal everything.
While there's no literal magic in the teaser, there is the magic of love and friendship, which lies at the heart of the entire book series.
Here's Why We Need a New 'Harry Potter' Adaptation
Much as we love the old movies, they're far from perfect – characters were underdeveloped, explored differently, or omitted entirely. Sometimes, entire plot lines were rewritten.
The series creators promise to more accurately reflect the source material. In the first season, we'll finally see all seven trials of the Philosopher's Stone, not just a few. Additionally, Hermione's storyline about fighting for house-elf rights will be included.
We'll learn more about Tom Riddle and his family's past. We will also get to see scenes featuring the Marauders, including how they interacted with each other, how James sought Lily's attention, and how the characters became part of the Order of the Phoenix.
The Characters Will Finally Become More Three-Dimensional & the Secondary Characters Will Be Given More Attention

We'll see that Harry is quite the feisty boy, Ron is sharp-tongued and courageous, and that Hermione is smart but rather arrogant and not omniscient.
The supporting characters also deserve more attention. Ginny is more than just Harry's future wife – she has a strong character. And Neville Longbottom's relationship with his grandmother and parents will touch anyone.
There's also the tragic fate of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, and let's not forget the Hogwarts teachers, each with their own story.
This Will Be a Project for a New Generation, but the Old Films Won't Go Anywhere
Harry Potter has become a favorite among millennials, but younger generations may not understand why the story of the Boy Who Lived touches hearts so deeply. Perhaps the HBO series will provide the key to understanding this.
The final movie in the franchise was released fifteen years ago, and the first movie was released twenty-five years ago – enough time has passed to revisit the story, and the old films are still available.
This time, however, we won't just have one film version – we'll have a full-fledged adaptation of the books.
