Things have started moving for The Hunger Games’ long-awaited prequel, and the franchise’s fans share their opinion on the future movie’s new leads. Here are some of the first reactions.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping has finally chosen its Haymitch Abernathy and Lenore Dove, with Joseph Zada starring as young Haymitch and Whitney Peak appearing as Lenore Dove, Haymitch’s love interest.
The upcoming movie, based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel of the same name published just a month ago, has been given numerous suggestions about who will potentially make the best version of Woody Harrelson’s young Haymitch.
Still, the final contender was not someone many expected to see in the leading role, but fans seem to be just fine with what they’ve got now — including the second lead too.

Apparently, the movie production is now going forward ahead of its release next November as, according to Deadline, Sunrise On The Reaping has officially proceeded to its casting, though it’s not yet clear who will also be on board for the remaining roles.
“After auditioning hundreds of gifted performers from around the world, these two stood out — not just for their talent, but for the emotional truth they brought to these iconic roles. Haymitch has always been a fan favorite, and his origin story is one of the most anticipated in the franchise. His relationship with Lenore Dove is deeply woven into the emotional history of Panem. We can’t wait for fans to experience the story that shaped one of the most compelling characters in the series”, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman revealed in a statement.

It’s not a really common thing to see a franchise’s fans being totally fine with who will eventually portray their favorite characters in a movie adaptation, but that’s not the case for The Hunger Games’ fandom — and for several reasons.
“Love seeing lesser known actors being cast in leading roles”, Redditor bbyxmadi reacted to the news.
“I'm happy that Whitney is getting another chance in a franchise. She was terrible in that Gossip Girl reboot but it really wasn't her fault, that show was garbage. The potential was there”, Little_Consequence added.
“I like these castings because Whitney looks similar to how I imagined Lenore Dove would look while reading and even though I haven’t heard of Joseph Zada, I’m glad they went with lesser known and age appropriate actors”, LibrarySeeker also chimed in.
