New face, new villain, new city — same iconic cape.

A new chapter in the Superman legacy is on its way. Directed by James Gunn, Superman is set for release on 9 July 2025 in the UK, with the US release following on 11 July.

The film introduces David Corenswet as Clark Kent — a younger version of the character, positioned at the beginning of his journey. The casting marks a shift in direction from the previous era led by Henry Cavill, who stepped away as the studio opted to explore a another period in Superman’s life.

London has already played a starring role in the lead-up to the release. A striking promotional event saw a Superman figure appear atop The Shard, while Leicester Square hosted fan previews and cast appearances. Although reviews won’t land until closer to release, the trailer has offered a first glimpse of the tone — a blend of classic heroism and personal conflict. Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Lex Luthor, bringing a new take on Superman’s longtime nemesis.

With a refreshed cast, a familiar villain, and a return to Superman’s early roots, the 2025 film looks to balance legacy with something new. Whether it becomes a defining version for the next generation remains to be seen — but with its global scope and grounded tone, it’s certainly positioning itself to try.
