Is James Gunn plotting a post-credit revolution with his Superman? DC's new movie might just change the whole game (for Marvel as well).

As the world prepares for Superman to fly into theaters, James Gunn seems to be planning a fix to one of superhero cinema's most frustrating habits: post-credit scenes.

Post-credit scenes have become a part of superhero movie culture. But James Gunn thinks that there's a major mistake with them.

The mistake in question: we're sitting through credits for a scene that's often just a teaser for another movie we'll have to wait years to see.

“I have a philosophy about post-credit scenes. It's somewhat related to my own mistakes in my time with Marvel,” he explained to Entertainment Weekly.

Gunn's Marvel Regrets: From Thor to Adam Warlock

The main issue: Gunn wasn't a fan of how the post-credit scenes played out in some major Marvel films. He particularly had issues with Avengers: Endgame and his own Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

When it came to Thor joining the Guardians, Gunn was clear about his feelings, saying:

“I said in the script notes: ‘I’m not gonna put him in. I don’t want to have Thor in the Guardians. I don’t want to do a movie with Thor.’ I don’t understand the character that much. I love watching his movies and I love Chris Hemsworth as a guy. I don't understand how to write that character.”

He was equally straightforward about regretting his own post-credit choices:

“I did not like what I did in Guardians 2 where we set up Adam Warlock and we set up the Guardians of the Galaxy and we set up all this s– that I didn't necessarily plan on.”

What This Means for 2025's ‘Superman’

So what's Gunn's plan with the upcoming Superman? He is not ditching post-credit scenes entirely. But he can just change how they function.

Based on Gunn's comments, it seems like Superman might feature post-credit scenes that actually enhance the movie you just watched, rather than simply teasing future projects.

Looking forward: post-credit scenes can become something that gives you an extra cherry on top of the movie you just watched.

Do you like the new approach to post-credit scenes DC can take with Superman?
