Supernatural Fans, Rise Up: Misha Collins Still Hopes For Show’s Resurrection
Maybe it's time to start a fan campaign for a Supernatural revival, now that the main stars of the cult series are all in favor of a reunion?
The CW recently canceled The Winchesters after season 1, which ended after episode 13. This is a spin-off of Supernatural about the adventures of young John and Mary, the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester.
The CW is currently changing its business strategy. The network has decided to focus on cheaper projects, leaving only the highest-rated of the expensive ones. The Winchesters were not popular enough for The CW, so the show was canceled.
Winchesters star and producer Jensen Ackles started the #SaveTheWinchesters social media campaign in hopes of saving the show.
The actor posted a video in which he, his wife, The Winchesters producer Danneel Ackles, and the main cast of the spin-off asked fans to post more often on social media using the hashtag #SaveTheWinchesters. However, it was all in vain and the fans unfortunately will not see the second season.
In a recent interview, Misha Collins, who played Castiel in the original Supernatural series, shared his thoughts on the matter:
“I was gonna say bittersweet, but it’s actually just sad. I’m not sure what the sweet part of it is.”
At the same time, however, he gave all die-hard Supernatural fans a glimmer of hope by admitting that he still wants to revive the show:
“I still hold on to some shred of hope that, at some point, we can do some resurrection of the show. Some movie or limited-run series… find some way to say hello and goodbye to the characters one more time.”
It is not known how serious the intentions of the main stars of Supernatural are and whether there will ever be a reboot of the series, but Collins is not the only one who has hinted to fans about the possibility of a reunion.
Jensen Ackles, who played Dean Winchester, admitted that the end of the series looks more like a pause for him and he is ready to discuss the possibility of a Supernatural revival.
In light of the recent success of the Warrior Nun fan campaign, which helped bring the show back after Netflix cancelled it, hope seems anything but illusory. This case proved that the power is in the hands of the fans, if only they use it in the right way.
