Taron Egerton Just Crushed Everyone’s ‘Carry-On 2’ Hopes (But Not Completely)

Egerton’s Christmas thriller is still Netflix’s pride and joy, but there are some reasons why no one wants to carry on with a long-discussed sequel so far.
There’s just several months left until the Christmas season is coming back with new holiday movies, but Taron Egerton’s hit thriller Carry-On won’t be on the bucket list for at least a couple of more years if we’re lucky.
Released on Netflix last December, the movie proved everyone wrong when it became the streamer’s biggest opener and one of the most-watched films in Netflix’s history — oh, and also one of few action-packed thrillers adorned with Christmas decorations.
Since then, Carry-On’s deserved sequel was what seemingly remained one of Netflix’s priorities, though the streamer, according to Carry-On’s lead Taron Egerton, might be moving on too slowly — or has already moved on way too quickly.
Taron Egerton Says Making ‘Carry-On 2’ Will Be “Really Hard”
The movie might have done a good job by making a holiday story about a chaotic Christmas Eve at the airport, but repeating Carry-On’s immense success will likely be harder than it actually seemed back in the day.
“Carry-On 2 is really hard. It’s a celebration of Christmas and a celebration of people who work at Christmas. It then needs to have this huge plot that needs to be foiled and maybe the earwig component”, Egerton recently revealed in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, also suggesting that developing a new plot just as compelling as the original one will be challenging, especially if it shares some of Carry-On’s elements.
However, the movie’s fans shouldn’t abandon all hope to see a sequel making it to the list of Christmas arrivals sometime next year or later.
“So I have not heard anything, but who knows, stranger things have happened”, the actor stated.
‘Carry-On 2’ Should Go With a Completely Different Story, Fans Think
Though Egerton didn’t say anything about him being eyed to reprise the role in a potential sequel, it might not even be the best idea that Carry-On’s creators can come up with.
Naturally, going back to the airport story with potentially the same plot twist would be just what the actor thinks is the biggest problem that the sequel is facing now, so some of the movie’s fans suggested that there are quite many reasons for a follow-up to stay away from the original as possible.
“I don't think they are going to have a sequel and if they do Ethan (taron egerton) will probably not be in it or the main character because he is now a cop so it wouldn't exactly "fit the airport vibe" they are going for”, Redditor Far-Plastic-8826 reflected on the matter in a thread.
“There many other Christmassy decors that could be used ... a Mall, a Hospital with a Children's ward, some random building being opened right before Christmas, In fact, whatever place terrorists could attack ... and that's just if they stay attached to the Christmas theme”, MademoiselleCalico added.
