Dean's Purgatory look was one of his best. Too bad the producers didn't think so.

Supernatural season 8 may not be widely considered to be the show's best, but it still gave us a lot of great memories — and great looks! Particularly, this was the time when Dean Winchester, portrayed by Jensen Ackles, was blessed with one of his most badass outfits.

In Purgatory, Dean rocked a brutal look, donning a leather jacket that was very oldschool-Supernatural-ish, if you know what we're talking about. However, had the fans started to believe that Dean was finally going back to his roots when it comes to clothes, he... lost the leather jacket once again.

All because the producers hated it.

Back in 2013, speaking at JIBcon 4, Ackles revealed the heart-wrenching story of the Supernatural costume team coming together to create the masterpiece of the leather jacket. According to Jensen, he was "poked and probed" by designers, but eventually, after a lot of brainstorming and pocket-placing, the perfect leather jacket was complete.

However, the colors — or something else — turned out wrong. The producers hated the jacket almost immediately, and in the very first episode of season 8, Dean is seen getting rid of it.

"I was told 'Get rid of the damn jacket,'" Ackles recalled. "It was episode one of season eight, I come out of Purgatory, I find the campers, and I grab this flannel shirt, and I rip the jacket off, and that was the [last time we saw it]."

Wow. Thanks to producers' hatred of the jacket's color, Dean Winchester has successfully lost not one but two leather jackets. As you remember, the first one was the jacket Dean inherited from Papa John.
