Summary

  • The fourth season of Sweet Magnolias has been announced and more details and updates are coming out.
  • One of the main stars of the series, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, has revealed what's to come.
  • Apparently, we will see the characters that appeared in Season 2 back on our screens.

The small South Carolina town of Serenity is not always peaceful, as we learned in the third season of Sweet Magnolias. And especially the protagonists of the series, played by the lovely souls JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Heather Headley and Brooke Elliott, have suffered a lot: Maddie's boyfriend and ex-husband argued and brawled, Helen had a tragic moment with a miscarriage, and the ill-wishers attacked Dana Sue's restaurant…

Fortunately, the fan-favorite trio survived all the hardships and adversity and can now reunite for cozy evenings, sipping margaritas and waiting with us for the release of the fourth season of Sweet Magnolias. But it looks like we'll have to hold off on the cocktails, because the next season will once again introduce familiar characters who are also underage! This was announced by the main star of the series herself, JoAnna Garcia Swisher.

Sweet Magnolias Star on the Return of Familiar Characters

PureWow was able to speak with JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who played everyone's favorite Maddie, and learned some tantalizing details that could see some familiar baby actors appearing in the new season!

In one episode of the second season of Sweet Magnolias, two kids appeared as extras in the background. Not too intriguing, right? Except that they are Swisher's real children, nine-year-old Emerson and six-year-old Sailor.

'That was a really fun day,' JoAnna Garcia Swisher shared about her children's participation in Sweet Magnolias. 'Heather [Headley] brought her kids there too, and so it was really fun to just have them with me at work. And then my youngest also did an episode of Santa Clauses, which was really fun. She wants to be an actress, so we're just taking really tiny baby steps.'

Since both Swisher and Maddie share a similar experience of motherhood, the actress also shared how it affects her and the character herself.

'I definitely think [we have] that mama heart, you know, wanting to protect your kids and make sure your kids are doing okay. My kids are a lot younger than the boys are, so she's dealing with things that I haven't quite hit yet. But yeah, I definitely think it bleeds into each other a little bit.'

What Is in Store for Us in Season 4?

The Sweet Magnolias star also teased what kind of attitude we can expect from the next season of the show.

'Maddie's got her hands full in season four, the actress added. 'I can't confirm nor deny anything, but I can tell you that I'm mentally preparing for acting in this.'

We already know that crazy things happen in every season of Sweet Magnolias. But Swisher has shared her expectations for this installment, hoping to connect her character more with the younger generation. It looks like that's exactly what we should expect.

'Margarita nights are my favorite because I'm with the ladies. It's just so fun. But I'd love to dip in a little bit more with the younger group, because they have a lot of fun. Their storylines are usually like, in their own little world, and I want to get in on that a little bit, she said. 'I want to see what's up with Noreen and Isaac. I feel like their house is gonna become like a fun little [space] because they're roommates now, and I'd love a little bit of that, too. So, Maddie could dip her toes all over the place. I want to see what's going on with everybody.'

Filming hasn't started yet, so don't expect Sweet Magnolias Season 4 until late 2024 or early 2025 at the earliest.
