Netflix has renewed one of the platform's most popular small-town romantic dramas, Sweet Magnolias, for another season. Sheryl J. Anderson will return as showrunner for season 5. The news comes more than two and a half months after the release of the previous season.
There were doubts about Season 5 being a possibility due to the low rating of Season 4. Deadline noted that it spent only two weeks in Netflix's global top 10 for English-language shows, only reaching as high as number 4. It’s a result that normally gets other series canceled, but luckily, not Sweet Magnolias.
What Is Sweet Magnolias About?
Sweet Magnolias is a TV adaptation based on the series of books by New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods. It follows several lifelong friends as they try to navigate their lives. Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen are the show's main characters, whose family and career issues interfere with their friendship.
The show is set in the charming little town of Serenity, S.C., and as always, the town itself becomes a character in the show, making it all about the suburban life that can be so fascinating despite its small size.

Season 5 has not been labeled by Netflix as the final chapter of the series, but it does come after some major cliffhangers left in season 4. So the upcoming season will pick up after the events of the last episode, which also follows Maddie's impending move to New York for a publishing job.
