Sydney Sweeney Bond Girl Buzz Sparks Fans’ Doubts — Here’s Why Timing Feels Off

Their suspicions actually make a lot of sense.
Could Sydney Sweeney be trading Euphoria for espionage? The 27-year-old star is reportedly at the top of director Denis Villeneuve’s list for the next Bond girl, and she’s said to have the backing of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos — with the company recently taking creative control of the spy franchise from long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Adding fuel to the rumours, Sweeney was even spotted at Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s lavish wedding celebrations, sparking talk that Amazon is eager to pull her into the Bond universe to help modernise 007 for a new generation.
Source to The Sun says Villeneuve is drawn to Sweeney’s "huge talent and alluring appeal to younger generations," combined with her rare mix of athleticism and femininity that fits the Bond girl legacy. The pair have apparently spent plenty of time together, with the director said to be impressed by her meteoric rise in Hollywood.
Villeneuve, revealed last month as the new Bond director, has promised to "honour the tradition" of the franchise — now set to feature a fresh face as Bond after Daniel Craig’s farewell in No Time To Die.
But not everyone is buying it. Some fans on Reddit aren’t mincing words:
"It’s like one of those delusional Reddit dream casts for movies. What happens when focus groups are used instead of a visionary who knows wtf they’re doing?"
Others mocked the idea completely.
"Tom Holland as Bond and Sydney Sweeney as a Bond girl literally sounds like what a class of freshmen in high school would pitch."
"Gonna be trash, rumored cast is giving high school musical vibes."
"I call bullshit."
Meanwhile, some questioned the timing and likelihood of it all, arguing there’s little chance Villeneuve would be casting Bond girls right now while he’s still busy filming Dune: Part 3 and hasn’t even locked in who will play Bond himself.
They also pointed out that Sweeney doesn’t seem like the type of actress Villeneuve would typically choose to work with, suggesting Florence Pugh or Anya Taylor-Joy — already collaborating with him — are far more realistic options, and in their opinion, simply better actresses.
