A new favourite has emerged in the anime industry. While it’s still early to sum up the year, discussions suggest the frontrunners will likely be the new seasons of Pharmacist’s Monologue or Solo Leveling, both holding IMDb ratings of just 8.6.
However, the highest-rated anime at the moment is a completely different project — the animated series Takopi’s Original Sin.
Plot of Takopi’s Original Sin
The story centres on an unusual visitor from a distant planet where eternal bliss prevails. This naive but kind-hearted alien arrives on Earth with a noble mission — to make people happier.
His first acquaintance is a gloomy schoolgirl, Shizuka, who has long lost her smile due to constant bullying and family troubles. The cosmic visitor, unfamiliar with earthly hardships, faces the tough task of understanding human emotions and restoring joy to the girl’s life.
Ratings of Takopi’s Original Sin
The series burst into the top rankings of 2025, quickly winning the hearts of viewers. The debut episode scored an impressive 9.7, with the following three episodes rated 9.6, 9.3, and 9.5 respectively. Six episodes are planned in total, with the finale set for July.
Interestingly, the anime’s popularity sparked an unexpected reaction — fans of One Piece have been massively inflating ratings of their favourite show’s new episodes, aiming to push Takopi’s Original Sin off the top spot. They openly claim the touching story about the girl and the alien does not deserve to lead the charts.
This buzz has only increased interest in the series, making it one of the most talked-about anime releases of the season.
