Tarantino Pulls Forgotten Kevin Costner Movie Out of Oblivion: “Best in History of Cinema”

Tarantino had seen this movie 5 times. Spielberg believed in it enough to help fund it. This is an Iconic Kevin Costner role the world forgot about.
Quentin Tarantino championed a long-forgotten film that had barely seen the light of day. Fandango received a limited release in just 27 theaters and disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived.
On a budget of $7 million, the film only managed to earn $91,666 at the box office before fading into the background for many years.
Quentin Tarantino Saw ‘Fandango’ 5 Times in a Movie Theater
“Fandango is one of the best directorial debuts in the history of cinema. I saw Fandango five times at the movie theater and it only played for a f– week, all right? Five times I saw it,” Tarantino said in his Vanity Fair interview.
In Fandango, five friends who have just finished college are ready to experience one last summer before facing the “real world.” They decide to head on one last road trip before facing their impending adult responsibilities.
Kevin Costner Role Before Turning Into Hollywood’s A-Lister
Kevin Costner, who plays Gardner Barnes in the film, delivers one of his earliest and most charming performances. The role came just before his mega-stardom in films like Silverado (1985) and Field of Dreams (1989).
“And Kevin Costner is so great in that movie. To me, the mark of a really cool actor is, after you see his performance, you want to act like him,” Tarantino said.
‘Fandango’ Was a Short Film That Steven Spielberg Gave a Chance To
Before it became a feature-length movie, Fandango was Kevin Reynolds' student film. It caught the eye of none other than Steven Spielberg, who helped fund the movie. Tarantino have also spoken about the Reynolds' potential, saying:
“Kevin Reynolds is going to be the Stanley Kubrick of his decade.”
And while the prediction didn't quite come true, Reynolds still gave us gems like Hatfields & McCoys (2012) and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).

“Structurally, it's a perfect film. The alternating pace matches the dance of the title and final scene: frantic hysteria and quiet contemplation. The images of letting go. It is a master class in setting up the ending. Also, the best use of "Born to be Wild" in any film soundtrack,” Redditor kinkysmart shared.
“[Fandango is an] absolutely amazing movie. The music at the wedding is beautiful,” Redditor tkingsbu wrote.
