Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King Gets a New Showrunner: Here’s Why It’s Good News for Fans

Yellowstone’s creator is leaving one of his hit shows in the good hands.
Mostly famous for his Western-y series like Yellowstone and its prequels, as well as Landman, Taylor Sheridan isn’t a stranger to crime dramas either, having created a couple of those while still working on his Western universe.
The writer-director has recently been booked and busy developing a second season for Landman and two more prequel shows for Yellowstone, so no wonder his duties on another hit series were ultimately passed on to someone else.
This, however, doesn’t seem to be a reason for concerns among Sheridan’s fans; apparently, things are now under control of a new showrunner who has previously worked with Sheridan on the latter’s Paramount+ hit.
Dave Erickson Is Tulsa King’s New Showrunner
A crime drama with Sylvester Stallone in the leading role is currently getting closer to its third season’s release, which is what might have caused some major behind-the-scenes changes in the production’s team.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and launched in 2022, Tulsa King was initially run by Terence Winter, though he was there for season 1 only as the following instalment’s structure alterations left the series without a showrunner for a while.
However, things are now back to normal with Dave Erickson at Tulsa King’s helm; despite not being something very common in the industry, such a big change isn’t the first one Tulsa King had to go through ever since its first season was released, which signals the show’s thematic strength that keeps its solid position on modern TV.
Additionally, Erickson isn’t a newcomer in Sheridan’s production team either, and some of the latter’s fans might know him thanks to Sheridan’s other hit criminal drama.
Dave Erickson Collaborated With Taylor Sheridan on Mayor of Kingstown
Before replacing Terence Winter as Tulsa King’s showrunner, Erickson proved his capability to remain faithful to Taylor Sheridan’s ideas while running a crime thriller series Mayor of Kingstown with Jeremy Renner as its lead.
Erickson came on board for Mayor of Kingstown as a writer and producer ahead of its season 2 production start and has kept the position, also being recently confirmed to return as Mayor of Kingstown’s showrunner in season 4.
Erickson’s work on the series brought him numerous accolades, especially since the series started performing much better with critics after the BTS change. With a fourth season heading into production soon, Mayor of Kingstown’s season 3 is currently sitting with 78% of critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, while seasons 1 and 2 have way worse numbers of 33% and 50%.
The series’ continuous successful streak keeps proving that Tulsa King’s future seasons are also in the good hands and the latter’s fans have no reason to be concerned after all.
