Almost every show has a love story, even the geek-centric The Big Bang Theory. In fact, romance is one of the main themes of the show about four scientists trying to overcome their social awkwardness and become cool.

Already in the pilot episode we learned a lot about Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj. Sheldon was not interested in any kind of relationship with a woman, Howard and Raj were desperate to find someone who at least liked them, and Leonard fell in love the second he saw Penny moving across the hall.

Over the course of the show, we saw Leonard obsess over Penny, and frankly, it had an unusual effect on the audience. Half of them were happy to see him pursue his dreams with a particular girl, and the other half were angry that he lost so many opportunities to be happy.

For example, it seems that fans still can't forgive the wasted storyline with Alex, Sheldon's assistant. She was a smart, good-looking young woman who showed genuine interest in Leonard. But he was so focused on Penny that he didn't even realize it at first.

Fans are sure that had she stayed on the show a little too long, or even better, had she been introduced to the story a little earlier, things could have gone the other way.

Of course, we knew that Leonard and Penny were meant to be an endgame couple, but still, his chemistry with Alex seemed so natural that you can't help but wonder what their love story would have been if there was a chance to see them together.
