Zach Cregger’s psychological horror is making headlines now, and it’s partially the merit of Gone Girl’s director.

It’s time for a new horror movie to become one of the biggest hits of this year, and it seems like Zach Cregger’s Weapons is aiming at surpassing Ryan Coogler’s Sinners soon.

It’s hard to believe the Josh Brolin-led psychological thriller has been in theatres for one week only since it’s grossed $100 million against the budget of around $40 million.

So far, Weapons has reached bigger heights than Cregger’s previous horror film Barbarian — which, however, couldn’t boast of the same thrilling suspense that the former is offering to its viewers in theatres right now.

This, according to Cregger, he owes to David Fincher’s assistance on set.

Zach Cregger Says David Fincher Was “Very Available” For Offering His View on ‘Weapons’

Since it didn’t take long to notice Fincher’s name in the movie’s end credits where he was thanked, Cregger revealed just as quickly that Gone Girl’s helmer was a great help for him when it came to making something of the genre that Fincher specialises in.

“He's just a very helpful guy. He was available to me during prep, and then he was very available during the post process. He watched the movie and had a lot of really constructive thoughts and gave me a ton of ideas”, Cregger said in a recent interview with Variety.

Apart from that, Fincher’s help wasn’t limited to his opinion on the movie only, as Cregger also added that Fincher had advised him on what equipment to use as well.

“Honestly, I learned a lot about how to prep, what lenses to use. I shot this mostly anamorphic, and I didn't quite respect how limiting anamorphic is in the post process. So stuff like that, technical stuff”, the director revealed.

‘Weapons’ Is Now the First Original Horror Movie to Break ‘Sinners’ Record

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Weapons holds scores of 94% and 86% from critics and audiences
  • On IMDb, the movie is rated 7.9/10

Even though there’s still a long way for Weapons to Sinners’ $365 million in the world box office, the $100 million start looks good, especially since the movie has already reached a significant milestone in the domestic box office, grossing around $60 million across US.

For an original horror movie, this is something to dream about, but Weapons now can count on even bigger heights in the box office within the upcoming several weeks.
