You know it right away when something is outstanding and one of a kind. And this is exactly how you can describe this holiday special episode of Bob’s Burgers.

There’s no way you can say Bob’s Burgers is cute and sweet in general, but when it goes into cuteness, you know it’s going to be overwhelming. While some episodes of this acclaimed animated show go unnoticed, there are several each season that turn your work upside down with the warm presence of family love.

One of such ones is definitely episode 10 of season 13 called “The Plight Before Christmas.” However, for me this is the only episode that made me cry while I was watching it.

‘Bob’s Burgers’ Season 13 Episode 10: “The Plight Before Christmas” Recap

The chapter follows the chaotic times before Christmas and sees Bob and Linda struggling to be good parents for all three of their children.

At first they were devastated because they had to split to attend Tina and Gene’s school performances, because unfortunately they both were happening at the same time. But later they discovered that Louise’s poetry evening in the library was scheduled for the same time as well, and the frustration just upped another level.

Forced to deal with all the drama, they decided to do as Louise said: while she seemed nervous to go, she still said she wasn’t ready to invite any of them to her reading, since she said she was going to read a poop-related poem. So Linda went with Tina, and Bob went with Gene.

However, sisterhood is a strong thing, and after a while Tina realized that Louise was actually about to read something from her heart, her first serious poem, and somebody simply has to be there to support the little girl. So she changed costumes with another girl and rushed to the library to be there with her little sister.

This Episode Will Crush You in a Good Way (Especially If You’re an Older Sister)

And as an older sister myself, the scene broke me. The way those animated characters capture the importance of simply “being there” for each other is brilliant.

And the dialogue, the light, the music, everything was perfect in this episode. It showed every character’s personal growth both inside and outside the family.

That’s why the episode is worth a rewatch every holiday season, to remind everyone the importance of trying to be with the loved ones.
