The Big Bang Theory is one of those shows that makes the audience fall in love with its characters and keeps them coming back for more time after time.

The sitcom ran for 12 seasons between 2007 and 2019 and was still popular when it wrapped up. So, it's no surprise that there has been a demand for a reunion for a while now. But as much as fans would love a spin-off, they shouldn't expect it, and the show's finale explains why.

When it was announced that the 12th season would be final for the hit sitcom, fans were left wondering how the showrunners would be able to wrap it up so quickly and in such a way that would satisfy the fans. And although the final season was slightly unbalanced and there were some storytelling issues, the creators pulled through.

That's not to say that it was perfect, of course. For instance, many thought there was too much focus on Sheldon and Amy's Nobel Prize bid and fans would've loved to see Raj getting the ending he deserved. However, despite this, most of the storylines were actually touching and thoughtful.

Even Big Bang Theory Creator Hated This Controversial Storyline

Penny and Leonard pulled on our heartstrings when it was revealed they were expecting their first child. It was also great to see Sheldon achieve his lifelong dream of winning the Nobel Prize. But apart from those and some other smaller events, the main characters didn't face any massive lifestyle changes, unlike many other sitcoms.

In the final scene, the group continued on with their regular lives, talking and sharing a meal at the apartment. And this is exactly the reason why the sitcom won't have a sequel.

The finale showed the audience that the group returned to their usual lives. That wasn't supposed to mark the end of an era but deliver a satisfying send-off to the beloved characters who remained friends while entering new chapters in their lives.

So, following up on one character's story would be almost impossible as the finale implies they will remain in touch. And this means that nearly everyone out of the group would need to be present in any potential future reunions to make fans happy.

Now, this doesn't mean that a TBBT spin-off will never happen as we can't know that for sure. But we wouldn't get our hopes up because, for now, the show's finale suggests otherwise.
