The former Chelsea legend and AFC Richmond co-manager was one of the main storylines in the first two seasons. But since then, the writers have struggled to find him a new role in the series.

With its feel-good atmosphere, lovable characters and heartwarming moments, Ted Lasso has been one of the most popular series in recent memory.

However, the show's third season has left some fans disappointed, particularly with its treatment of Roy Kent, played by the brilliant Brett Goldstein.

Roy Kent was introduced in the first season as a gruff, foul-mouthed, tired football player who ended up coaching for AFC Richmond.

Over the course of the show, Roy's character arc has been one of its most compelling ones, as he goes from being a reluctant grump to a trusted mentor and friend to the team.

He is also a fan favorite with his witty one-liners and no-nonsense attitude.

In season 3, however, Roy's storyline seems to have reached a dead end.

He is no longer a necessary manager for AFC Richmond, as the team flounders after Zava's unexpected retirement. He spends most of the episodes struggling with his new role as a training coach.

While his interactions with Keeley are still charming and funny, his character feels underutilized, and the story lacks the emotional depth and resonance that made him such a compelling character in the first place.

Some fans have speculated that this is because Brett Goldstein, who also serves as writer and producer on the show, may have been stretched thin by his various responsibilities.

Others, however, feel that the show's writers simply don't know what to do with Roy when he's no longer part of the team.

While there are still plenty of nice moments and funny scenes, the lack of a compelling storyline for Roy is a missed opportunity for the show to delve deeper into his character and explore new facets of his personality.

And it was only in the last few episodes that the writers finally found a new role for the beloved, cranky former player.

Roy's role shifted from influencing the whole team to focusing on Jamie, where two seemingly wasted characters have a new and amazing arc that gives us incredible heartwarming feelings.

Now the co-manager of Richmond learns to care for his former enemy, and the famous footballer goes through his own pride to become the best player in the world.

If you still cherish hope for Roy's character development, new episodes of Ted Lasso season 3 premiere on Apple TV+ on Wednesdays.
