Ted Lasso season 4 finale just aired — is season 5 renewed? Jason Sudeikis has been planning two more seasons since the revival
Apple hasn't said a word about Richmond's future, but the people making the show have said plenty.
The Ted Lasso season 4 finale, "Being Alive," arrived on Apple TV on October 7, 2026, closing out a 10-episode run that started August 5. So, is there a season 5? Officially, no. Apple hasn't renewed it. Unofficially, nearly everyone involved has been acting like there is one.
The plan was always three more
Season 3 was supposed to be the end. Ted went home to Kansas in 2023, and that was that, until Sudeikis gathered the writers in Ojai in February 2024 to see if there was anything left. Apple ordered season 4 in March 2025, and Ted came back to coach Richmond's second-division women's team.
In a July 2026 cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, Sudeikis laid out the scope: another three-season arc, seasons 4 through 6, built around the women's team the way the first three were built around the men's. THR also reported that, if all went to plan, the writers would be back in the room in late August to start mapping a season 5 nobody had ordered yet. Asked why he came back at all, he kept it short:
"I know I needed this."

What Apple has said
- Matt Cherniss, head of programming, told Deadline in July, "I know he's looking to jump into the next season soon," while adding that, to his knowledge, work on it hadn't started.
- Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of services, told Screen Rant in August that he thinks the show deserves another season.
- The marketing never billed season 4 as the last one. There was no "final season" push.
For reference, season 1 premiered in August 2020, season 2 in July 2021, and season 3 in March 2023. Season 4 took more than three years after that.
And then the director posted
The one wrinkle came from Matt Lipsey, who directed the finale and described it on X as the "final episode of this wonderful series." He may have meant his own run on the show or just the season. No official announcement followed.
The cast, for what it's worth, has been reading the ending the other way. Tanya Reynolds and Abbie Hern have both described the finale as feeling more like a beginning, which would fit a three-season plan with two seasons still to go.
