New reveal gives fans a new hope for the show's future.

The Acolyte, an upcoming mystery thriller series set in the Star Wars universe, has recently got a fine addition to its director team.

Alex Garcia Lopez, known for his work on season 3 of Daredevil, Netflix 's superhero TV series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which ran for three seasons (2015-2018) and was warmly received by both viewers and critics, has joined the show's director team.

Alex worked on episode 4 (Blindsided) and episode 10 (Karen) of the show's final season, and is responsible for some of the show's most acclaimed action sequences: an 11-minute, one-take prison riot sequence full of visceral hand-to-hand combat, as well as the epic Daredevil vs. Bullseye showdown in a church.

The Acolyte series will be set during the final days of the High Republic era, some fifty years before the events of the prequel trilogy, giving fans their first on-screen look at the period.

It is being created by Leslye Headland, best known as the co-creator of the Netflix comedy-drama series Russian Doll.

The story is described as a mystery thriller and will follow a former Padawan who reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they face are more sinister than they anticipated.

As the show's title and synopsis suggest, the theme of the Dark Side of the Force will have a strong presence in the story. In Star Wars lore, an acolyte is a rank within the Sith Order, similar to its Padawan counterpart within the Jedi Order.

The term is used to describe Force-sensitive apprentices who have just begun to study the Dark Path under the tutelage of a more experienced Sith Lord.

It is still unclear how exactly the title will be reflected in the story, with one of the most popular theories being that one of the aforementioned Padawan will eventually fall to the Dark Side.

Whatever path the writers ultimately choose, the addition of Alex Garcia Lopez to the show's crew is a decision that fans are already welcoming. Given the likely dark tone of the story and his work on Daredevil, he is a perfect choice for the job.

The Acolyte's release date has not been scheduled yet.
