According to the co-CEO of DC, The Batman fans will have to wait for the sequel as long as it’s needed, no matter how excruciating the hiatus feels.

The Batman Part 2 is expected in June — and it would be great news if we weren’t talking about just the script.

Speaking with EW, co-head of DC James Gunn called on fans to be patient and wait for The Batman Part 2 as long as it takes its director, Matt Reeves, to come up with a script, but the update only seems to raise even more eyebrows in the fandom.

“Listen, we're supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. [...] People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does,” Gunn said.

Fans weren’t too eager to take Gunn’s advice. In fact, they only have even more questions and doubts now.

“Not to mention the fact that The Batman was marketed as the first of a new trilogy and now it is painfully obvious that they actually had no idea where the plot should go after the first film. Even if he does deliver a script this month, my expectations have been drastically lowered just knowing they had no script concept to begin with and the sequel needed to be constructed from a blank slate,” said one Redditor, reacting to the news.

What Went Wrong With Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Trilogy

The Batman Part 1 was released in 2022, so the wait has already been much longer than fans expected. Some fans suspect that the studio didn’t really believe in the movie and never expected it to be so successful that people would demand a sequel so soon.

However, the ending of the first movie did leave a lot of room for imagination, to say the least, which is why fans think their impatience is justified.

“The Batman didn’t end on some ending where it’s all wrapped up. A vast majority of people left that knowing a sequel was bound to be in the works because of The new mayor, the joker, the destruction of Gotham. I think we all assumed that Reeves had some idea of what the sequel was going to be when he made that ending, but idk what has happened,” said Redditor Nic_Claxton.

If The Batman is indeed a trilogy, then the third movie may as well be released in 2030, and that’s what makes people feel so betrayed.

‘The Batman: Part 2’ Release Date: Will It Change?

Despite the script not being officially ready at the time of writing, The Batman: Part 2 remains scheduled for October 1, 2027.
