The good thing is, there are enough spinoffs to try again.

Summary:

  • The Big Bang Theory was a hit CBS sitcom that ran for 12 seasons, from 2007 to 2019.
  • The show had many celebrity cameos, from Buffy's Sarah Michelle Gellar to Star Wars ' Carrie Fisher.
  • It was later revealed by Jessica Radloff in her book that Selena Gomez could also make a cameo, but it never worked out.

If there's one thing The Big Bang Theory has always nailed, it's the celebrity cameos. Whether the actors appeared as themselves in the lives of the main characters or had a small role to play, they were always perfect in every capacity. In fact, some of the fan-favorite episodes throughout the show's 12 seasons include guest star appearances.

What's sad to know now, as it's been almost 5 years since the last episode aired, is that The Big Bang Theory couldn't realize every idea they had. Of course, if it were up to Steve Molaro and Chuck Lorre, they'd let a lot more people come in and claim their part in the show's history. But not everyone was easy to get.

Selena Gomez, for example, has become one of the most regrettable could-have-been guest stars The Big Bang Theory couldn't get its hands on. Here's everything you need to know about the cameo that never happened.

Selena Gomez on The Big Bang Theory

While the choice of actress may seem a bit random, there is an explanation. Back in 2016, Gomez posted about her love for the show on Instagram, so the idea of inviting her was born.

According to the book The Big Bang Theory. The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series by Jessica Radloff, it was Steve Molaro who came up with the perfect way to incorporate a former Disney Channel star into the show. Gomez could have appeared as Amy Farrah Fowler.

“Never even got to pitch it to them, but I had kicked around an idea that Amy had been complaining about her awful stepsister and what a b**** she was. When we meet this stepsister, played by Selena, she's beautiful, and great, and everyone loves her, and Amy was just being jealous,” Molaro explained in the book.

Unfortunately, viewers never got to see the comedic greatness that Mayim Bialik and Selena Gomez would have been on screen together, and now, even if the actress were to step into The Big Bang Theory universe, it would likely be in a completely different role. That is, of course, if the upcoming spinoff doesn't end up being Amy's story.

Though the Selena Gomez cameo idea fell victim to all the nuances of scheduling and hasn't even reached pitching point, that's no reason to avoid the show altogether.

Celebrity cameos or not, the sitcom won over its audience with the brilliant acting of the original cast, and it still deserves all the praise.
