Let’s wait a little longer then?

Summary:

  • The Big Bang Theory was a CBS sitcom that ran from 2007 to 2019.
  • Back in 2023, HBO Max has announced another TBBT spinoff that will be produced by the network.
  • Kunal Nayyar, who portrayed Raj in the original show, thinks it might be too soon for a comeback.

In this era of reboots and revivals, you can only hope that your favorite show isn't being slaughtered by greedy producers looking to make more money off what was once a passion project. At least, that's what some people are worried about. Others truly believe that any comeback can be done right.

After all, if there is still a demand for some characters to find their way back to the screen, some new stories can be written about them, even if their arcs were nicely wrapped up in the original show's finale.

For example, even though The Big Bang characters have reached the point in their lives where it is time to settle down and enjoy quiet adulthood, fans believe there are still many stories to be told. One of the characters viewers are particularly interested in is Raj, who wasn't able to find love at the end of season 12.

However, Kunal Nayyar isn't too keen on the idea of returning now.

When Will The Big Bang Theory Spinoff Air?

One of the spinoffs of the iconic CBS sitcom already premiered when the show was still on the air. Young Sheldon, a prequel that follows the Cooper family back to Texas in the early '90s, has been running since 2017 and is set to release its final season on the same network this year.

With that, The Big Bang Theory universe as we know it will come to an end... at least for a while.

As HBO announced back in 2023, the studio already has another franchise spinoff planned. Even though it hasn't even reached the pre-production stage yet, fans are already buzzing with anticipation. The cast of the original show, however, doesn't really share that sentiment.

Speaking to TVLine, Kunal Nayyar, who portrayed Raj in the original series, shared his candid thoughts on the show reaching the point of revival so soon:

“To be honest, it feels a little too soon. Can you do a [revival] only four years after your show ends? That’s not a reunion show; that’s just another season. <...> If [the spinoff] were to happen, we’ll see what the universe says,” he said.

So while the actor is skeptical about the idea of such an early comeback, he's not completely against the idea. However, considering the fact that HBO will be busy producing the delayed seasons of its own originals throughout 2024, there's a good chance that The Big Bang Theory spinoff is out of the question for now anyway.

If you want to stay updated on the spinoff, keep an eye out for all the news and behind-the-scenes updates. Until then, you can watch the original series on Max.
