'The Boys' Season 5 & 4 Other Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Series to Be Released in April 2026

April promises to bring plenty of new series for sci-fi fans. However, most of them are continuations of successful franchises, such as Star Wars, Stranger Things, and The Handmaid's Tale.

But should we be disappointed? The return of beloved universes with new seasons is more of a feast than a disappointment.

1. 'The Boys' Season 5

Release Date: April 8, 2026

Streaming Platform: Prime Video

At the beginning of the new season, Homelander has conquered the world. Most of the good guys are imprisoned, and Starlight is the only one still trying to organize a resistance.

We expect Billy Butcher to return in the final season with a resolution to the superhero question. This season, Homelander's main opponent will prove to be little better than his enemy – he plans to use a biological weapon that will wipe out the supes.

All of this will culminate in a sweeping series finale that won't necessarily align with the comics.

2. 'Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord'

Release Date: April 6, 2026

Streaming Platform: Disney+

The show will follow Maul, a former Sith apprentice of Palpatine's, who miraculously survived being cut in half by Obi-Wan's lightsaber in The Phantom Menace.

Instead of returning to serve his master, Maul became the head of his own criminal network and was wanted by the police on the planet Janix. He also acquired an apprentice, the Twi'lek named Devon Izara.

Maul appears to be another attempt to explore the dark and criminal side of a galaxy far, far away. This idea seems more promising than reducing Star Wars to Jedi showdowns, as in The Acolyte.

3. 'Stranger Things: Tales From '85'

Release Date: April 23, 2026

Streaming Platform: Netflix

It seems that Netflix has found a solution to the problem with its most popular show. Have the actors grown up? The animated characters are forever children, so few will notice if they're voiced by different actors.

What about new viewers who are too lazy to watch all the seasons? Here's a new entry point into the franchise. Has it become too dark and creepy for kids? The new series will be more family-friendly.

Animator Eric Robles supervised the series, and the Duffer brothers are listed only as executive producers.

4. 'The Testaments'

Release Date: April 8, 2026

Streaming Platform: Hulu

The US has transformed into the ultra-religious Republic of Gilead, where women are effectively relegated to the role of submissive servants and second-class citizens.

The book and series follow three heroines: Aunt Lydia, who runs an elite girls' school, Agnes, a young rebel from a noble Gilead family, and Daisy, a Canadian girl who discovers that her family is actually from Gilead.

The Testaments is a spinoff to The Handmaid's Tale, which spanned six seasons. Although the main series ended last year, Margaret Atwood wrote the sequel in 2019, and Hulu began working on the adaptation shortly after its publication.

5. 'From' Season 4

Release Date: April 19, 2026

Streaming Platform: MGM+

The series tells the story of a small town from which escape is impossible – anyone who comes here never leaves. The town is full of dark secrets, and creatures emerge from the woods at night to hunt.

It's not yet known if this will be the last season, but the creators promise to reveal the town's secrets. The residents will finally get answers – well, those who survive. At the very least, we can expect details about the Man in the Yellow Suit.
