It’s time to lay this debate to rest.

One of the best things viewers loved about The Boys over the past three seasons was the way the show was able to surprise them with each new episode. However, it turned out that the only form of surprise many fans could handle was gore and violence. When it came to deeper character revelations, the fandom split down the middle.

While some people are still bitter about the faded chances of romance between Frenchie and Kimiko, others simply didn't see the twist on Frenchie's sexuality coming at all. Either way, the Internet is now flooded with frustrated reviews and viewers demanding an explanation. Tomer Capone has the perfect one.

Is Frenchie from The Boys Gay?

Whatever you thought of Frenchie before season 4, it probably still holds true. Tomer Capone, who has portrayed the character over the years, didn't find the change all that surprising. In fact, speaking to Variety, the actor even joked about how he thinks he manifested it for his character.

In all seriousness, though, it was never one side or the other for Frenchie, and the actor made sure to take inspiration from some pop culture idols that certainly show the fluidity of his preferences. From the very beginning of the show, Capone made sure his portrayal doesn’t make it easy to fit Frenchie under a certain label.

“At the end of the day, it’s deeper than that. It’s the writers and the story trying to give you another angle and another peep hole to see this character, where he came from, what his demons are made of. <...> So it’s just another beautiful color to explore in Frenchie’s painting. I loved it,” he explained.

Now his dedication to keeping the character that way has paid off, as Frenchie has been blessed by Kimiko to start an affair with his crush, Colin. And while this was a surprising turn of events, and a very upsetting one for all Frenchie and Kimiko shippers, the relationship the two men have may end up being just as beloved if fans give it a chance.

If you've enjoyed Frenchie's development so far, aren't too opposed to the new romance, and love what Tomer Capone is doing alongside the writing team to bring his character's tortured soul to light, be sure to tune in to the rest of season 4 of The Boys every Thursday on Prime Video.
