‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Is Doomed If It Follows Book Plot, Fans Think

The cult fashion drama’s sequel might be adapting the original book series’ second instalment — and somehow fans won’t be happy about it at all. Here’s what some hope The Devil Wears Prada 2 won’t do, despite this decision actually making sense.
Things have finally started moving forward for The Devil Wears Prada’s highly anticipated sequel that hasn’t had any update since it was announced last year.
Despite some fears, the future movie will see the returns of Meryl Streep, Ann Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, also adding Kenneth Branagh as Miranda Priestly’s husband.
As of now, the sequel has officially started its production, potentially coming to theatres sometime in 2026; the plot details are kept under wraps.
However, while it’s still not clear what to expect from The Devil Wears Prada 2, some of the first movie’s fans fear the sequel might, well, follow its original source material’s storyline.
Fans Don’t Want ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Any Near the Original Book
It might not be to everyone’s knowledge, but the movie was primarily based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name.
The book was followed by a sequel story several years later, titled “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns” and set a decade after the events of the first novel.
The story primarily follows Andy who, now the editor of a new bridal magazine, gets ready for her own wedding, but is still haunted by the traumatic experience she had with Miranda.
Though it’s fair to suggest The Devil Wears Prada’s upcoming sequel might in fact be adapted from the second book, some hope the movie’s creators have come up with something of their own.
“I remember the second book was awful. Haven't read the third. I wonder how much will actually get adapted”, Redditor devilishycleverchap said in a thread.
“Yea, I loved the original book and found out relatively recently that there are sequels. I was so excited for the second one, but it was so garbage that I didn't even make it to half way through... If they follow the book, I am not going to watch it”, Skeeders added.
There’s Still a Chance ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Has Nothing to Do With the Book At All
While there’s not so much to know about the movie’s storyline anyway, other fans remembered some major rumours circulating in the media last year, suggesting that those might in fact turn out to be true and give the original film’s lovers a different and better story than in the second book.
“I don't think they'll adapt the books at all, honestly. The second book (IIRC) is about Emily and Andy teaming up to start a magazine or something? From what I heard, this movie is largely a Miranda vs. Emily battle where Miranda needs Emily's ad dollars (she's a high-ranking executive at some luxe company) to prop up Runway's failing revenue in the digital age. So it seems like its own thing”, Snoopy_Sunset commented in the same thread.
When Will ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Be Released?
The movie doesn’t have an exact premiere date yet, though it’s expected to arrive in theatres worldwide sometime in 2026.
