The Era of Real Movie Stars is Dead, According to Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston has stolen the spotlight after her Allure feature, but aside from applause and new stunning photos, she also got some criticism for her words.
The era of glamour and "real movie stars" is over as it fell victim to social media, believes the Friends icon Jennifer Aniston. But not everyone is rushing to agree with her.
"I'm a little choked up. I feel like it's dying. There are no more movie stars. There's no more glamour. Even the Oscar parties used to be so fun," among other things, Aniston told Allure in a new cover interview.
She also admitted that she "hates" social media, having joined Instagram only to promote her hair-care line and then failing because of the coronavirus pandemic. Aniston confessed she is no good at social media, and went on to lament that people are no longer talking to each other.
While the actress is seemingly nostalgic of the era of "real movie stars" and sitcoms that had no iPhones in them, fans seem to be a little disappointed in her, deeming Aniston's words as the way to shame modern day's celebrities.
"There are movie stars in their twenties [right now] who are winning awards that she has never won or hasn't even been nominated for, starring in successful blockbusters, of course there are movie stars today, she just doesn't feel like she's relevant anymore and she is right," Twitter user tashidonaldson_ ripped into Aniston.
Others were especially skeptical about Aniston even bringing Oscars parties up, pointing out that the actress is essentially a "90s sitcom lady" who were "never in the Oscar conversations" to begin with.
Some people seem to kind of get the sentiment, though.
"I mean this is what happens when you have TikTok stars like Addison Rae getting invited to Met Gala and getting films," Twitter user varunat19 said.
However, even those who understand what Aniston tried to say felt that her statement was a bit weird and had an "oh no, why are these peasants among us rich people" vibe. Many angered fans of such modern movie stars like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh were quick to claim that Aniston "hasn't been relevant since Friends".
It's up to everyone to decide their own view on that, but Aniston has made waves after starring in The Morning Show and returning for the Friends reunion episode in 2021. But as of now, no big projects with her participation have been announced.
