‘The Gilded Age’ Is Renewed, but That Release Window Is Kind of Brutal

HBO’s hit historical drama has received a major update recently, but you shouldn’t hope for new episodes coming too soon.
HBO is about to continue exploring the world of New York City high society in The Gilded Age’s fourth season which was announced before the third instalment ended its run.
Led by Carrie Coon, the show follows ambitious socialite Bertha Russell whose path towards the status of the most influential aristocrat is marked by many ups and downs when it comes to the creme de la creme’s old-fashioned view on the newcomers.
While The Gilded Age’s third season is yet to continue with two more episodes, releasing its finale on August 10, another instalment is now in the works.
However, the show’s release schedule doesn’t really look optimistic for those already expecting new episodes.
‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Risks to Join Modern TV’s Most Obnoxious Trend Ever
While things do look positive so far now that the series has been renewed ahead of the ongoing season’s finale, it doesn’t mean we should expect new episodes to drop within a year or something like this.
In fact, The Gilded Age had pretty good dynamics when it was launched back in 2022, with the sophomore season coming in 2023.
However, it took around two years for the third one to arrive, which probably means fans will have to wait at least a couple of years more before figuring out how things played out after a potentially shocking finale.
Still, all is good if The Gilded Age gets an update within 2 years — it’s better than a 3-year-gap like Severance had, for instance.
‘The Gilded Age’ Fans Feel Like the Show Was on the Edge After Season 2
As the series’ lead Carrie Coon confirmed recently, the ratings were just as high as the drama unfolding in the third season, so The Gilded Age is doing better than ever, especially after allegedly getting close to being cancelled when the second season was released.
“That's good to hear. The show was close to being cancelled after the second season so I was curious if all the good reviews and extra promotion (the actors couldn't promote the first two seasons due to covid and strikes) was effective in helping the ratings”, Redditor quangtran revealed in a thread.
Apart from that, some fans noted that the show is getting all the way more intriguing with every new episode, so no wonder much more viewers tuned in for season 3.
“I gotta say, I do like the show. Julian Fellows really knows how to suck me in to caring about the trivial life problems of the ultra wealthy”, Underwater_Karma commented.
“Thank goodness! There are too many interesting things happening right now for them to wrap up in the final two episodes of this season”, flouronmypjs agreed.
When Will ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Be Released?
There’s no premiere date for the show’s next season yet, but new episodes are expected to arrive on HBO Max sometime in 2027.
Meanwhile, The Gilded Age’s season 3 remaining episodes will air on the platform on August 3 and August 10.
