‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3 Theory Changes Aurora's Arc Completely

If the theory comes true, Aurora's transformation in The Gilded Age might just become the most exciting subplot of Season 3.
The latest season of HBO's The Gilded Age kicked off with a bang. The premiere episode shocked us all: Aurora's husband is having an affair and wants a divorce.
Why was divorce such a big deal in the Gilded Age? Back then, divorce meant broken reputations, shattered social connections and whispers that followed you wherever you went. Women bore the brunt of societal judgment, often losing their marriage and their entire social circle at the same time.
Could Aurora Fane Become the ‘The Gilded Age's’ Most Unexpected Rebel?
The theory: Aurora can become an anarchist suffragette.
“We have seen her clash with or be close to multiple oppressive structures/laws that, given the perfect storm, might radicalise her. This sets the stage for Aurora to be personally affected by 3 separate legal forms of oppression that all have routes in fundamentalist Christian values. Perhaps these events may lead her to become radicalised with her divorce being a final straw,” Redditor threadarts suggested.
Could this theory be onto something? While Aurora might not go full-on anarchist, her divorce could be the push she needs to break free from society's chains.
We're already starting to see her bump up against some pretty unfair rules and traditions. Maybe this personal crisis is exactly what she needs to find her voice.
Kelli O’Hara Hints New Direction for Aurora in ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3
In support of the theory, we have Kelli O’Hara talking about some drastic changes her character will go through in The Gilded Age this season. In her interview to Us Weekly, she revealed:
“You’re going to see some of the same players. You’re going to also see some fantastic new guest artists. My storyline, I should say, changes a lot.”
Could the changes in her storyline be this radical? We’ll have to see. But whether or not Aurora goes full rebel mode, one thing's clear: she's done playing by the old rules. Season 3 might just show us a whole new side of Mrs. Fane and we're here for it.
