'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 6 Episode 9 Death Scene Leaves Fans Speechless

Episode 9 of The Handmaid's Tale was a true spectacle. As the show nears its finale, a certain someone’s death feels very rewarding.
Even in its final moments, The Handmaid's Tale has proven that it hasn't lost its ability to leave its viewers stunned.
Episode 9 was one of the most explosive yet — quite literally — with two major deaths: Joseph Lawrence and Nick Blaine. But let's focus on the latter right now.
Nick Blaine Finally Got What Was Coming for Him
Nick started out as the Waterfords' driver and became involved in a complicated relationship with June. An arranged encounter initiated by Serena Waterford evolved into a genuine connection.
However, Nick is not the person June made him out to be. His betrayal in Season 6, Episode 6 speaks for itself. He is hungry for power. When he makes his way into the plane that is bound to never land, the first thing he says to Lawrence is:
“Guess you decided to join the winners.”
Last Words Nick Ever Heard Was About June
But what was more satisfying than Nick's inevitable death was the fact that the last words he ever heard were Lawrence talking about June.
“You should've listened to her,” Joseph said.
Meanwhile, June is standing outside watching the plane go down in flames.
When talking to Variety, Max Minghella spoke about Nick thinking of June in his final moments. He said:
“It felt very poignant — and consistent with the character and how he’s functioned in the show. He’s really been driven by that relationship. It also was lovely to finish with Bradley, who has become such a dear friend outside the show. That felt right to me, too.”
What Do Fans Think About Nick’s Death in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’?
“The fact that Nick said "finally chose to join the winners" I instantly said "nah f– him" but knowing June saw him go on was just gut wrenching. So much emotion in this whole episode,” Redditor zenrage_ wrote.
“Honestly a fitting end to Lawrence and Nick. Lawrence choosing his path and redemption and Nick finally reaping the sorrows of not walking away,” Redditor lebenohnegrenzen said.
“Lawrence and Nick dying for exact opposite reasons was really poetic. Lawrence showed his courage and commitment to helping good, while Nick showed he was a spineless coward,” Redditor kwallet pointed out.
When Is ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Finale Coming Out?
