The steamy Texas thriller Starz didn't want is now the show Netflix can't renew fast enough.

The Hunting Wives season 2 lands on Netflix on November 26, 2026, which is Thanksgiving. Netflix didn't wait for it: on October 7, the streamer renewed the show for season 3, 50 days before season 2 drops. Season 3 is eight episodes, like the first two, with creator Rebecca Cutter back as showrunner. Cast member Dermot Mulroney had already let slip that season 3 was in prep.

"Buckle up, because Season 3 will be even more scandalous and twisted."

How a Starz castoff got here

The Hunting Wives wasn't supposed to be a Netflix show, or even a multi-season one:

  • October 2023: Starz orders eight episodes as a limited series.
  • May 2025: Starz and Lionsgate split. Lionsgate Television takes the show back, betting it can run for multiple seasons elsewhere.
  • June 2025: Netflix buys a one-year U.S. license.
  • July 21, 2025: Season 1 premieres, available only in the U.S. It still spends five weeks on Netflix's global English-language Top 10 and racks up more than 20 million views in that window.
  • September 12, 2025: Netflix renews it and makes season 2 a Netflix-branded series in nearly every market.
  • October 7, 2026: Season 3.

The show also did something for the book. May Cobb's 2021 novel went back to press twice in a single week after the premiere, and its publisher, Berkley, reported a 5,000 percent jump in sales across formats compared to the same week the year before.

Starz ordered The Hunting Wives as a one-and-done limited series. Netflix now has three seasons of it.

What season 2 is working with

Season 2 is an original story, moving past Cobb's novel, which season 1 had already rewritten in places, most notably by making Margo the one pregnant with Brad's baby. Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman are back as Sophie and Margo, along with Jaime Ray Newman, Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier. Hunter Emery and Karen Rodriguez, who played deputies Flynn and Salazar, have been bumped up to series regulars, and Kim Matula joins as Nadia Kelly.

One practical upside of ordering early is speed. Season 2 took about 14 and a half months to go from renewal to premiere. Renewing season 3 before season 2 even airs lets production start sooner, and Screen Rant estimates that on the same timeline, season 3 could arrive around mid-December 2027.
