'The Hyde' Trailer Gave Me Chills — Here’s Why Depp Still Gets It

A gothic fever dream with teeth.
The Hyde project has been circling for a while now, and ever since the first announcement, I’ve been intrigued. But with the newly released trailer — nearly six minutes of smoky Victorian visuals, creeping dread, and Johnny Depp fully unchained — I’m officially obsessed.
This isn’t just another gothic reimagining. It’s personal. Depp doesn’t just play Hyde — he sinks into him, eyes gleaming with something feral and deliberate. His narration alone gave me chills. And knowing he shaped the character’s twisted choices alongside Ridley Scott’s vision? That makes it feel even darker, more intimate.
The premise — Hyde lives, Jekyll’s gone — is simple but brilliant. No redemption arc, no moral tug-of-war. Just one man (or monster?) free to indulge everything he’s held back. The art is wild, raw, dripping with fog and madness. It’s exactly what I want from a modern gothic horror.
And clearly, I’m not the only one. Under Depp’s own Instagram post, fans are already spiralling:
"So excited for the Hyde novel… I just know it’s going to be something really special,"
— @hydeobsessed
"I have just one question: WHEN??? Everything that you do is amazing. So, when?"
— @darkgothictea
"A whole new character in a whole new world! Can’t wait,"
— @stevensonchild
The release is set for Halloween, and if the rest of the graphic novel feels anything like this teaser — moody, sharp, and quietly unhinged — then we’re in for something unforgettable. Honestly? I’m ready to lose myself in Hyde’s world.
