The Last of Us’ latest episode was too quick to decide Joel’s fate. However, it still paved the way for the highest IMDb score the series has ever seen.

Even though The Last of Us episode 2 might have triggered the original video game’s fans once again, its bitterness still played out in the best way possible for the show’s ratings that reached a new and pretty impressive level on IMDb.

However, the ongoing sophomore season might give an even more intense experience fans are now looking forward to — and that probably will beat the current record.

The episode titled Through the Valley sees Abby turning her evil revenge plan into reality when she brutally beats Joel to death after he saves her from an army of the infected; the overall effect becomes an even bigger tragedy when Ellie is forced to watch her father figure slowly die.

Joel’s gruesome end had the show’s fans all across the world crying their eyes out and, ironically, brought the entire series its best IMDb result ever.

Right now, the second episode now rating 9.5/10, despite some fans previously expressing their fears that the rushed storyline would make the episode drop low on the list.

“I played the games and to see this live action f—king killed me. I thought I was ready but instead I was sobbing the entire time”, Redditor Informal_Virus_8698 wrote in one of the show-related threads.

“When Joel tried to lift his head when Ellie screamed at him to get up. Man that broke my heart”, BoricuaGabe put in.

“The game did the scene a lot better imo and I don’t like that they’re revealing Abby’s motivations so early on but that was a fantastic episode of TV. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time”, cjackc11 revealed.

Even though it’s not yet clear how exactly the show will continue with 5 more episodes after Joel’s tragic death, some fans are already looking forward to a very specific moment with another revengeful journey.

“I can’t wait till that bitch die. You understand why she did it but it was Joel. I heard Ellie turn into a demon and go on a rampage by my nephew that played the game . Know I know why, can’t wait”, North-Ant7716 commented.

“I want Ellie to kill Abby and take revenge, but I think that won’t happen, I haven’t played the game and don’t know the story but my guess is when Ellie and Abby meet again, Abby tells the whole story how her father was killed etc and eventually Ellie and Abby make peace to fight bigger enemy or something. I will hate this TV series if the story line is anywhere near to this”, Pixelated-10 also reflected on the issue.

In the original game, however, Abby doesn’t die, but still meets harsh confrontation from Ellie which ultimately results in the former being quite close to dying and the latter making a crucial decision to break the circle of violence.

When Is The Last of Us Next Episode Being Released?

The second season’s episode 3 will arrive on Max on April 20; the remaining four episodes will be released every Sunday until May 25.
