The second season’s eventful finale has just set up even more troubles for Ellie in The Last of Us’ season 3, though she still had to face some cringey consequences of her revenge quest. Here’s what the original game’s fans are ranting about right now.

The wait is over for the anticipated finale of The Last of Us’ sophomore season, yet it was quickly labeled one of the worst things HBO has ever come up with.

The show’s season 2 episode 7 keeps following Ellie as she embarks on a solo voyage to the Seattle aquarium where she was told Abby was hiding.

The whole thing, however, is complicated not only due to the wretched weather and the fact that Jesse refuses to accompany her, but also because it takes Ellie a couple of near-death experiences to reach the destination.

Despite making an attempt to turn Ellie’s quest into something all the way more intriguing, these plot additions might have become the reason why the second season’s finale has now received the biggest backlash yet.

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Finale Feels Worse Than ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8, Fans Say

For a quick recap, the final episode of the season witnesses Bella Ramsey’s Ellie getting into all sorts of weird trouble that doesn’t even seem to push the storyline forward in any way.

At first, the character is trapped by the Seraphites on an isolated island only to be freed two minutes later when something signals a danger for the community. Next, when Ellie encounters Mel and Owen, she accidentally kills the former who begs Ellie to save her yet unborn baby’s life by cutting her belly (are we in a ‘House of the Dragon’ episode here?).

“I will say it again and again: every change to the game they make in this show (this season) is absolutely f–king baffling to me and making the already bad show even worse. My god... What was it with the random detour and being captured by Scars for 0.5 seconds? What was it with Mel asking ELLIE to cut her baby out of her? What was it with Ellie screaming "no, no, no" at the end like a little b—ch?” Redditor iixxad wondered in a show-related thread.

“Possibly the worst season of an HBO show since GoT season 8. Actually worse”, ClementineCoda added.

“The pacing for this show confuses the heck out of me. Why does she need to get captured by the Seraphites? How does that help Ellie's story?”, Bandsohard had the same on their mind.

“I did not play the game. I enjoyed season 1. This season was an absolute s–tshow, Bella and the writers have completely butchered Ellie and the and show. Will go down as one of the worst miscasts of all time”, notDvoiduRlooKin4 complained.

Some Keep Defending Bella Ramsey Amidst Season 2 Hate

Even though many made things even worse by shifting the blame from The Last of Us’ writers to Ellie’s actor Bella Ramsey, others shared a different point — and even admitted Ramsey’s high-class acting doesn’t save the entire show from drowning anymore.

“I'm done ripping on Bella. Her acting doesn't help but the show script is the worst of any show I have ever seen”, Lizard798658866 wrote in the same thread.

“Honestly this writing is f–king trash. It’s not all Bella’s fault”, Delayandrelay agreed.

Will There Be ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3?

The show has been renewed for a third season which doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but will likely arrive on Max sometime in 2027.
