‘The Last of Us’ Season 3: Everything You Need to Know

The Last of Us Season 2 is over. What's next for the show? Craig Mazin and Kaitlyn Dever tease and even “crazier” Season 3.
The Last of Us Season 3 was confirmed even before Season 2 aired. So it's clear that HBO is all-in on this franchise. Season 2 has ended on a painful cliffhanger.
What's going to happen next? And what should we expect from Season 3? Here's what we know so far.
‘The Last of Us’ Season 3: Plot Details
Season 3 is going to be about Abby. Just like the players of The Last of Us Part II, the viewers of the show can expect the change in perspective. Season 3 will challenge our assumptions about good and bad.
“The point of this story — and this is looked at from so many different angles in so many different ways — is that the entire concept of protagonist is flawed. The entire concept of villain is flawed,” Craig Mazin said to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘The Last of Us’ Season 3 Might Run Longer Than Season 2
The best news for fans hungry for more content comes from showrunner Craig Mazin himself, who has hinted at a longer season ahead.
“I think there’s a decent chance that Season 3 will be longer than Season 2, just because the manner of that narrative and the opportunities it affords us are a little different,” he said during his talk with Collider.
‘The Last of Us’ Season 3 Promises to Be Even “Crazier” Than Season 2
But the good news doesn't stop there. Kaitlyn Dever dropped some exciting hints during her Los Angeles Times interview.
“All he [Craig Mazin] said to me was, “Just get ready for what’s to come because it’s going to be crazier.” He always said he wanted to make Season 2 bigger than Season 1, and he said Season 3 is going to be even bigger.”
‘The Last of Us’ Season 3: Production & Release Date
According to Film and Television Alliance, Season 3 production is set to begin on June 30th, 2025 in Vancouver, Canada.
Although the release date hasn't been announced yet, given the two-year gap between the first two seasons, we're likely to get Season 3 in early 2027.
