'The Love Hypothesis': What Is the Original Book About & How Is It Connected to Star Wars?
News of the film adaptation of The Love Hypothesis has fans excited. But what is the book about, and how is it connected to Kylo Ren and Rey?
Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman have officially been cast as Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen, respectively, in the film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's best-selling novel, The Love Hypothesis.
Not only will Reinhart play the lead role, she will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
Here is what the original book is about and what we know about the highly anticipated movie, which fans have been waiting for since 2021.
What Is 'The Love Hypothesis' About?
The Love Hypothesis tells the story of Olive, a third-year PhD candidate in the Biology department who enters into a fake relationship with Dr. Adam Carlsen.
Olive wants to convince her ex that she has moved on, and Adam wants to convince his colleagues that he intends to stay at the university.
As with all stories involving fake relationships, the more time the characters spend together, the harder it becomes to distinguish between the game and the real feelings.
The author also incorporated serious topics into a humorous romantic comedy – Olive suffers from impostor syndrome, and her fake relationship starts to feel too real.
'The Love Hypothesis' Was Initially a Kylo Ren/Rey Fan Fiction
Ali Hazelwood takes romantic comedies with typical characters, situations, and conflicts and puts them in an academic environment.
Her writing journey began with fan fiction. A fan of Star Wars, she created an alternative history about Kylo Ren and Rey, which later became The Love Hypothesis. However, the novel went far beyond the fan faction. The Love Hypothesis became an international bestseller, receiving tens of thousands of reviews.
Who Is Making 'The Love Hypothesis'?
Bisous Pictures is developing the adaptation in association with Amazon MGM Studios and MRC.
Claire Scanlon, who worked on The Good Place and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is directing. Sarah Rothschild wrote the screenplay. Ali Hazelwood herself serves as an executive producer alongside Lili Reinhart and Catherine Hagedorn.
