After The OA, Brit Marling became known as one of the most artistic showrunners on modern TV – which is why her involvement in the AI-driven project has fans fuming. Here are all the details you need to know.

The possible functions of AI in film production are almost limitless. With its help you can edit scenes, search for locations, write scripts, draw graphic elements, translate speech into other languages, and change faces.

The use of AI helps to reduce the cost of the production process, but not everyone uses AI due to lack of money. Perhaps it would be more relevant to talk about a creative crisis.

Brit Marling's Next Project Created With AI Surprised The OA Fans

Fans of The OA were outraged by the news that Natasha Lyonne's next project, for which she teamed up with Brit Marling, the main star and one of the creators of The OA, will be a sci-fi film made with the help of AI.

Marling has dedicated her career to producing unique and thought-provoking films, and over the years she has repeatedly voiced the idea that art must be sincere in order to evoke genuine emotion. Reddit user thenewesthewitt wrote:

“I'm so surprised Brit would sign onto an AI created project?! She was so vocal about the human side of creativity being so divine and important during the MATEOTW press tours.”

Reddit theintelligibletriad thinks that the AI project is the right decision for Marling's career:

“This makes me feel like Marling's politics are deeply confused/flawed at best, and totally bankrupt at worst.”

Other fans doubt that the creators whose work was used to train AI were compensated fairly, casting a shadow over both Lyonne and Marling:

“There's no way creators were compensated fairly for their work to train AI compared to what creators would've earned for actually making the film's content. As much as I love Natasha and Brit, I can't get behind this.”

On the other hand, AI is just beginning to develop in cinema (and there's no denying that it will continue to do so), and perhaps Lyonne and Marling will use AI as a form of meta-commentary or in some other way that doesn't compromise the artistic integrity of their future project.

The film titled Uncanny Valley is being developed by Asteria, a studio founded by Lyonne and Bryn Mooser, who will co-produce the film.

Uncanny Valley will be set in the world of video games. The story centers on a teenage girl who loses touch with reality when she gets caught up in a popular video game.

According to the creators, the movie will combine traditional cinematography and gaming elements. The latter will be created by tech innovator Jaron Lanier with the participation of Marling and Lyonne.

It will use the Marey generative model created by Moonvalley. It was trained exclusively on licensed material.

Lanier is considered one of the leading minds in Silicon Valley. He worked at video game developer Atari, founded a virtual reality startup in the 1980s, and then worked at Microsoft Research.
