The Only Berzatto Family Tree Explainer You Need to Understand ‘The Bear’ Season 4 Mess

While things aren’t getting any easier in The Bear’s new season 4, it might be the best time to finally figure out who is who in the Berzatto family. Beware though, there can be some surprises on the way.
The kitchen chaos seemingly got even louder in The Bear’s brand new fourth season, with Carmy’s family and work team also adding up to the overall drama.
Though it’s been pretty clear since the show’s very beginning that things weren’t quite the same ever since Carmy and Natalie’s brother Michael died several months prior, some major details about the Berzattos remain unraveled.
However, there have been hints all along, so here’s everything we know so far about Carmy’s family members and the relationships among them.
The Main Berzatto Family Includes Carmy, Natalie and Donna
Aside from flashbacks that also feature Carmy and Natalie’s late older brother Mikey, these two and their mother Donna are the only Berzatto family members who the show centres on entirely.
It’s fair to say things aren’t very simple and positive when it comes to what happens within the family: while Mikey struggled with his drug addiction and several failed business attempts, later dying by suicide, neither of his family members has so far recovered from the tragedy.
That’s not the only problem though, as both Carmy and Natalie also have strained relationships with their mother Donna who had to raise all her three children mostly alone, given that the Berzatto siblings’ father wasn’t much present during their growing up.
Donna’s mental health issues added to the already existing tension, eventually leading to Mikey, Natalie and Carmy learning to rely solely on one another.
Is Richie Jerimovich Also a Berzatto?
Despite many fans thinking that Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s character is somehow related to the Berzattos (since everyone in there calls him “cousin”), he in fact isn’t a blood relative to Carmy.
It’s implied that Richie has been Mikey’s best friend since their childhood, which is why he was easily accepted into the family years before The Bear picks the story up.
Richie was also the manager of Mikey’s diner at the time when Carmy returned to Chicago after years spent in New York City.
Are Jimmy "Cicero" Kalinowski and Lee Lane the Berzattos’ Real Uncles?
No, neither of those characters is related to the Berzattos by blood.
While everyone calls Jimmy “uncle” simply out of affection, he’s no more than a close family friend who used to be a business partner of the Berzatto siblings’ father.
Lee Lane is also an unofficial part of the Berzatto family since he’s Donna’s on-and-off abusive boyfriend who starts up a fight with Mikey at that infamous dinner in The Bear’s season 2.
Who Else Is in the Berzatto Family?
Apart from those living in Chicago, the Berzattos also include Sarah Paulson’s Michelle, a restaurant owner who is in a relationship with John Mulaney’s Stevie.
