Episode 14 of The Rookie’s season 7 has brought back the haunting story of Celina and Blanca. There was a solid reason for it — so let’s find it out.

The Rookie is one of ABC's most popular crime dramas that has come a long way and is now in its season 7. Released on April 15, episode 14 followed many storylines, but the old ones that opened up under a different light were the most important twists this time.

The episode follows Celina Juarez as she discovers that a rather popular true crime podcast is covering the murder of her sister. And decides to confront the show's host.

In an interview with Screen Rant, The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley explained why he felt the need to revisit a devastating death that happened some time ago.

The idea of using a true-crime podcast as a vehicle for the series first came to him, and he felt that Celina Juarez's story would be the most natural to explore through this phenomenon.

“There've been a few articles out there about the true crime phenomenon, and they have conventions and everything, and in some way it can bring fresh light to stories,”

Hawley explains that he thought it was a great plot twist to investigate Celina’s “continuing coping with what happened to her sister.”

Episode 14 Brought Back More Another Haunting Story

Except for the storyline with Blanca’s murder, the episode revisited another story that ended up digging up deep wounds. The series brought back Malvado, the killer who knows that it was Bailey who tipped him off about the whereabouts of her abusive ex-husband.

“That Malvado storyline was there to really show Bailey's trauma with Jason on the loose and coming for her, and her having to sort of go through the retraumatization of her past relationship and ultimately come to terms with the fact that there were things that she never admitted to herself. Even back then, it felt like a device more than something that needed to play in terms of long-term stakes,” explained Hawley.
