The Rookie got two new characters during its season 7, but only one of them is confirmed to turn from recurring to regular in the upcoming season 8, according to Deadline. It’s Miles Penn who is going to stick around and push the story forward.
Deric Augustine's character had a memorable arc during season 7 episode 13, for example, which aired April 8 and was written by Aleks Biskis and Chelsea Urech. In the episode, Miles runs into his best friend from college at a crime scene.
Speaking to Miles, his friend reveals that he has signed with a professional football team and wants to invite his old friend to a party to celebrate. But at the party, something happens that Miles gets into a fight with his friend's security worker, and after that, his friend suggests that he take the job of the lost fighter.
However, soon enough, with the help of Tim, Miles realises it’s best for him to stay in the force. So that’s why it’s only natural that the character is becoming the show’s regular now.
