Even though it seemed like the end.

Ever noticed how we talk so much about some shows, but never enough about others? It’s a rather strange phenomenon really. Even when a show has glowing ratings and is loved by some viewers, it doesn't mean it’s going to be popular.

For example, there’s a show I absolutely love, but none of my friends have even given it a chance. The name is The Sex Lives of College Girls, and it’s a creation of Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble. The show premiered on HBO Max in 2021, and its season 3 has just ended.

The first two seasons were almost perfect on Rotten Tomatoes with 97% and 93%, but something happened and season 3 only got 33% from critics on the aggregator. That's actually very strange, because I'm not the only one who thinks that the writing of this season was just phenomenal.

Season 3 lost one of the main characters, Leighton, and brought in Kacey instead. And while it seemed at first that she would not fit in, she proved the fans wrong. Her storyline blended perfectly into the overall premise of the show.

While I absolutely adored the whole season, it was the finale that made me realize I actually love it. We saw how all of the girls really matured, and are not obsessing over their messy life, but trying to own them and move on.

We see Bella finally being honest with her mom, Whitney choosing her mental health over demanding sports, Kimberly fully embracing her personality. And all while Kacey, who was just dumped by a boy she lost her virginity to, is singing a powerful love song and proving to herself that she is worthy.

Is Season 3 the Last One For The Sex Lives of College Girls?

Frankly, the vibe of the episode was as if the show had come to an end. But the season left so many open questions and opportunities for us to learn more about the girls that fans are literally begging for another season.

“I know people have said on here that HBO Max is very trigger happy with cancelling shows-even ones that are successful-and that ending felt kind of like the writers weren’t optimistic in getting renewed, which would be a shame because there’s definitely still life in the show and I thought the last few episodes actually picked up a lot,” Redditor lostinplatitudes said.

The Sex Lives of College Girls is available to stream on Max and Hulu.
