Disney prioritized another franchise, shelving Tron despite being almost ready.

I’ve been waiting for this one for ages. Tron: Ares is finally happening, but honestly, the journey to get here was wild.

According to screenwriter David DiGilio, the movie was nearly ready to shoot back in 2011. Director Joseph Kosinski and the team were even scouting locations in Shanghai.

Then Disney bought Lucasfilm, and boom — Star Wars became the top priority. "That just sucked the air out of the room" DiGilio told The Hollywood Reporter. I can totally feel it — it’s like everyone’s favorite sci-fi franchise got paused because another sci-fi giant needed attention.

What really hits me is how close we were to seeing it all come together. The prep, the scouting, the scripts — everything was in motion. It’s crazy to think how a single corporate move can put such a huge project on hold, especially one that means so much to fans like me.

So here we are, over a decade later, finally getting back to the Grid with Tron: Ares. I’m just glad it didn’t vanish completely — because, for a Tron fan like me, it was worth the wait.
