'The Social Network Part II': Plot, Release Date & Everything We Know

A sequel to one of the biggest biopics of the 21st century is in development, and here's everything you need to know about it.
Sequels and remakes have reached one of the most iconic biographical dramas of the 21st century – The Social Network, which chronicled the creation of Facebook.
A sequel to the story is coming soon, and we're sharing everything we know about the upcoming movie.
Will David Fincher Return to Make 'The Social Network Part II'?
The Social Network was directed by David Fincher, who won a Golden Globe for his work. Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, for which he won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The movie was based on Ben Mezrich's book, The Accidental Billionaires.
However, Fincher will not be involved in the sequel. This time, Sorkin will be the sole director and writer. Although Sorkin is primarily known as an outstanding screenwriter, The Social Network Part II will not be his first directorial project.
His directorial credits include Molly's Game, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Being the Ricardos.
When Will 'The Social Network Part II' Be Released?
The Social Network Part II doesn't yet have a release date – the project is still in the early stages of development.
However, it is known that the film's working title is Goliath. Preliminary estimates suggest a late 2026 premiere.
What Will 'The Social Network Part II' Be About?
After the 2021 attack on the Capitol, Sorkin conceived the idea for the sequel. He believes that Facebook played a significant role in these events.
It was announced that the sequel will not solely focus on the January 6 protests and the aftermath of the 2020 election. Instead, the events at the Capitol will likely be part of a larger story exploring Facebook's influence on the world.
Sources also claim that, although the movie is being called a sequel, it will not directly follow The Social Network. The upcoming project will likely only be tangentially connected to Fincher's film.
The plot will be based on a series of Wall Street Journal's The Facebook Files articles by Jeff Horowitz. They revealed the platform's algorithmic flaws and the negative impact of the social network on modern society.
Who Is in the Cast of 'The Social Network Part II'?
Many expect to see Jesse Eisenberg, who portrayed Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, in the sequel. However, it is unlikely that we will see the actor return in his previous role – Eisenberg has declined to play the tech mogul again.
The leading contender for Zuckerberg's role is currently Jeremy Strong, star of Succession. There are also rumors that Strong could play the editor of The Wall Street Journal.
Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are in talks to star in the project as well. Madison is expected to play Frances Haugen, a former Facebook product manager.
She joined the company hoping to make the social network less toxic but soon uncovered scandalous truths about its algorithms and the spread of disinformation. Frances became the WSJ's chief whistleblower and helped journalists expose the social network.
Jeremy Allen White is rumored to play Jeff Horowitz, the WSJ reporter who investigated the case.
