Ashur survives and trains Spartacus's first woman fighter.

Twelve years after the original, Spartacus returns — but this time, in an alternate timeline. In Spartacus: House of Ashur, the infamous traitor survives the rebellion and rises to power as the head of his own gladiator school.

Among his fighters is the franchise’s first female gladiator, Achillia (played by Tenika Davis). The trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con and, yes — it’s just as brutal and sweaty as you’d expect.

It’s still blood, sand, politics — and now, a new perspective. Ashur is no longer the conniving underdog. He’s in charge.

No, this won’t feature original stars like Liam McIntyre. The story starts from a parallel universe, where the rebellion failed and Ashur lived. But fans will see familiar faces in the cast: Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, Ivana Baquero, and House of the Dragon’s Graham McTavish.

The new show isn’t just more Spartacus. It’s rewriting legacy, giving power to a former villain, and raising the stakes with a female warrior entering the ring. This winter’s going to be hot.

As I share the trailer with you all, it’s been fun to see Reddit light up with reactions:

"The original was one of my favorite shows but I’ll be real: it’s been so long I forgot Ashur had died," wrote FasterBussycat.

"Ashur was such a great villain. Absolutely hated him. Love to revisit the Spartacus universe and see new characters," shared KendraSays.

"I love to hate him! Smug, smooth-talkin' sumbitch out for himself. I can hate snakes and admire their stripes at the same time," noted Ditchthedon.

And honestly, same — Ashur was one of the characters I loved to hate. Curious to see what this twisted alternate future has in store.
