The Star of the Table: This Melt-in-Your-Mouth Cheesy Cauliflower Bake Will Surprise Every Guest
One of those healthy options that you’ll want to repeat again and again.
There are all sorts of methods to cook vegetables, including the cauliflower, though baked vegetables are usually the ones to be swallowed right away. The same also happens to the cauliflower which tastes way better when it’s baked with other types of vegetables or rather cheese, with the latter turning it into the most delicious side dish ever.
If you’ve felt like trying something new recently, this traditional British meal will likely surprise you with its rich taste (and won’t harm your figure).
Ingredients: 1 large cauliflower (800 g), 200 g of hard cheddar cheese (grated), 300 ml of milk, 30 g of wheat flour, 40 g of butter, 0.5 tsp of nutmeg (grated), salt and black pepper to taste.
Prepare the cabbage: separate it into florets, rinse, and boil for 6–7 minutes in salted water until tender but not mushy. Drain the water and let cool.
Make the béchamel sauce: melt the butter, add the flour, and cook for 2 minutes until golden brown. Gradually pour in warm milk, stirring constantly. Cook for 5 minutes until thickened.
Make cheese mixture: Remove the sauce from the heat, add 150 g of cheddar, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
Shape and bake: grease a baking dish with butter, layer the cabbage, pour the sauce over it, and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake for 20 minutes at 180°C until golden brown.
