The Testaments Just Got a Promising Production Update From Hulu
There's no escaping Gilead, even though The Handmaid's Tale is at the finish line. The sequel is here to take you on another journey with some amazing actors on board.
When The Handmaid's Tale premiered on Hulu in 2017, it took the world by storm. Based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, the series explores life in a twisted society where totalitarianism thrives and people are trapped in a harsh regime.
The series follows Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne, formerly known in the series as Offred, and her time in Gilead as she tries to overthrow the regime from within with the help of other desperate people.
The show's creators are ready to release the final season on April 8, but don't think that's the last you'll hear of Gilead. It's been known for a while now that the sequel series, The Testament, is already in the works by the same showrunner, Bruce Miller. And actually, there is some good news about the production development.
According to Variety, the highly anticipated series has just officially received a series order from Hulu. There are also some new names attached to the series that will make up the ensemble cast. They include series regulars Amy Seimetz as Agnes' stepmother Paula, Brad Alexander as young Commander Garth, and Mabel Li as Aunt Vidala.
It was also recently announced that Mattea Conforti and Rowan Blanchard will join the cast as Becka and Shunammite, respectively. Zarrin Darnell-Martin will play the role of Aunt Gabbana, Eva Foote will portray Aunt Estee, Isolde Ardies will join the cast as Hulda, Shechinah Mpumlwana will be Jehosheba, Birva Pandya will be Miriam, and Kira Guloien will play Rosa.
Earlier this year it was also announced that Chase Infiniti will helm the upcoming sequel, with Ann Dowd returning as the merciless Aunt Lydia Clements. In March, it was announced that BAFTA winner Lucy Halliday had joined the series as Daisy as well.
What Is The Testaments About?
The Testaments is set 15 years after the harsh events of its predecessor and will follow life in Gilead as it is: with almost no changes. The events of the series will be told through the eyes of three women — Aunt Lydia, Agnes and Daisy. The new generation of Gilead women and their lives will be at the center of the story, as the terrible regime they must live under is all they have ever known in their lives.
The Testaments has yet to receive a release window at Hulu.
